When The Winds Blow...

Wasn't it just a couple weeks ago I blogged about 

how we were going to be tearing down our barn

and rebuilding it into this really cool shed?

Our plan was to start this in June after we had some kitchen updates

and our guest bedroom finished.

Well, the Big Guy had other plans for us.

We had one heck of a  crazy storm with heavy straight winds come through.

Along with hail...

And rain...

And a big 'ol mess was left.

In all actuality, this couldn't have come down any sweeter.

My husband wanted to leave the new section of the barn intact

(he and our son's built that along with the help of his buddy, Mel)

And of course, we wanted to salvage as much lumber and barn board as possible to

rebuild the new shed.

Well, the new section is perfectly intact and 90% of the wood is still quite usable.

We are now busy sorting through it all in between rain spells.

We have some family that have volunteered to help, which we are truly

grateful for!  It's going to take some time,

but it will get done.

We also found we had to put in a camera system to

avoid poachers coming in to happily help themselves to some barn board

(I tell ya...this stuff is like gold!)

So think twice before you sneak out here. 

You'll be caught on camera!

LOL

In between the rain we've been having,

we are working on our guest room.

I'm including a couple 'before' pictures.

This was our youngest son's room.

I will have some 'after' shots at some point next week.

But I can share the new light with you so you get the idea of where this is headed.

Girls Weekend

Sometimes you just have to get away

and celebrate life with your tribe.

I had a mini getaway weekend with a few friends.

Two of them came from out of state.

We took them to Antique Archaeology

(home of the American Pickers)

so Karen could get a neat photo of her gorgeous quilt.

I tried to confiscate it (along with the PERFECT bag she made) , but alas, I lost.

I apologize for the poor picture quality.

These were all done on my phone as I forgot to take my camera with me.

We had an afternoon of wine tasting...

...which lead to this

Just kidding...maybe.

Believe it or not we also got a lot of sewing done.

But I have to tell you,

I cannot drink wine and then try to put a quilt together.

When all was said an done, my rows were almost 2" off.

I traded in the bottle of wine for a seam ripper and fixed the quilt.

Lesson learned.

Tara tried to get selfies of our group with her famous selfie stick,

but was getting a little frustrated as it was taking pictures

when she thought it wasn't.

(insert big laughing face here!)

In the end it worked out great for Tara

We all faded out in the background.

I think her goal was accomplished.

:)

It was just a great weekend the whole way around.  The kind where 

you laughed so hard your stomach felt you did a marathon round of crunches.

I finally finished an embroidery pattern I've been working on for a while.

It's called Friends and can be found on Esty at LiliPopo's shop HERE.

I dearly love her patterns and highly recommend them.

I used colored pencils to add color to the background.

Whenever I would work on this, I would think about so many 

different women in my life.  I think that's why I enjoyed working on 

this so much.  I would picture these two girls

talking in a field of flowers as different conversation scenarios ran through my head.

I would think about my mom, my sister, my sister's-in-law, my special cousins,

my dear friends, my sister from another mister (as we call ourselves, right Julie?...lol),

and new women I've been coming in contact with and just how much 

each one is special to me.

This project is very dear to my heart for each stitch

 represents all of the women who have touched my life at some point in time.

I thank you for helping me be the woman I am today and for helping me become

the woman I want to grow into.

The Big One!

Hey Gang!

Hope all is well.

We wanted to share a big project we are starting this year.

Our goal is to be done by May 2018.  We are doing this project

ourselves, which is why it's going to take a while.

It involves tearing down our barn.

It will come down piece by piece and stone by stone,

There's a lot to tear down.

It would cost more than our budget will allow to fix the barn, and sadly,

it doesn't qualify for grants.

We don't want it to go to waste.  We've had people stop and offer to tear it down for the wood,

but this barn is original to the house, so it needs to stay here.

This is it's home.

So we decided to tear it down and rebuild it  here.

This is what I see when I look out my kitchen window.

In a year it will be a beautiful shed with a farmhouse table.

The shed will be used for family gatherings,

craft sales, classes, maybe even a little farmer's market or two.

Maybe someone would even be interested in having a wedding rehearsal dinner out here.

The possibilities are endless.

Quite honestly, my heart bursts every time I think about what's going to take place!

All the lime stone will be used to make a large patio with a fire pit in the middle where

we will roast hot dogs and marshmallows and maybe make a s'mores or two.

Hopefully there is enough lime stone to do a walkway from the house to the party area. 

This is going to be such a labor of love.  We dearly love it out here

and want to share this with others who love country living.

By no means is any of it perfect, but it is full of love

and we are looking forward to making even more memories as 

this little project unfolds.

More to come as we document this project.  We hope you will stay with us on this adventure!

Mercury Glass

Hello out there!

I don't know about you, but we have been having some

beautiful weather here lately.

The winds have been a bit gusty, so true to our name,

it's been pretty breezy on the home front.

Our youngest son is getting married next year, so we are busy

looking for decorating ideas for the vintage romance theme of the wedding.

Hearing 'vintage' directed my mind right to mercury glass, but it's so expensive.

I did some searches on Pinterest and kind of combined ideas

from each of my readings into what I'm showing you today

(FYI...I am not being paid for any type of sponsorship in this post).

What you'll need:

• Looking glass spray (I used Krylon...not sure what other brands there are, but found this at WalMart)
• Any type of glassware you would like to beautify
• A spray bottle that has a mist setting (trust me...you want this setting)
• A mixture of equal parts vinegar & water (I used 1/2 cup each for this post, but still have some left)
• Paper towels

You'll want to make sure your glass is clean and dry and absolutely make sure you are in a well ventilated area.

Since we will more than likely have candles or flowers in the jars, I did the process on the outside of the jar.  A lot of tutorials out there have this done on the inside, but I'm not taking any chances on a fire starting on their special day!

I used a cheese jar along with an olive jar, just to see how different I could make them.

Place newspaper down and set your jar upside down.

I stood about 2-1/2 feel away and sprayed a gentle mist on the jar.

You don't want any drips happening, just tiny water bubbles.

Right away, lightly spray with the looking glass spray.  

Wait around 45 seconds (give or take)

and use your paper town to blot the jar.  You can also push the paper towel a bit to give it a more crackled look. This dries rather quickly, so you'll need to find the right amount of time after spraying to blot it.  I'm going to try around 30 seconds next time.

You can do your next coat right away repeating the steps above.  Add as many coats until you have your desired look.

Now keep in mind this is the first time I've ever done this, so mine isn't perfect.

I'll be practicing a lot more until the wedding to get it how I want it.

The photo below is after two coats.

I ended up doing six coats.  I added some lace to soften it up.

The former cheese jar below.

And the former olive jar.

They do make for a pretty little vignette.

I plan on saving all my glass jars and keep practicing, but overall, this was a fun and fast project.

Welcome!

Welcome to our home!

Please sit down and have a cup of coffee with us.

We can sit out here on the front porch.

(OK..right now it's still winter, but we can pretend, right?)

We have big dreams for this blog and our new adventure here at Breezy Lane..

We are in the beginning stages of planning a huge project

of tearing down our barn and rebuilding it into an 

area we are going to love to share with you!

More to come on that as the stages progress,

but in the meantime, we'll be sharing some DIY projects,

like touching up our kitchen and redoing our guest room.

We'll also share lots of quilting and crafting goodness,

new recipes, and of course, we'll be sharing our new grandson from time to time.

We have an incredible passion for country life and want to share as much of it with you as possible.

There's just something magical about hearing nothing but the birds singing

as the sun slowly rises in the morning.

There hasn't been a day that has gone by in the last 20 years 

of living here that we haven't felt incredibly blessed.

Our little country neighborhood is amazing.

We have the sweetest neighbors whom we love dearly.

We are even lucky enough to live up the road from one of my

favorite cousins (and actually live in the house he grew up in).

We give thanks every single day.

We really hope you enjoy our journey into our new phase in life.

We feel God has a great plan in store for us, and though we aren't quite sure

what that plan is, we know it's going to be a doozey!

Our hope is that you'll join us and be with us as we unfold

this new road map of life and see where this adventure takes us!
